Detrol LA is the extended release form of Detrol (tolterodine) prescribed for urinary incontinence due to an overactive bladder. When the bladder fills, the bladder extends and releases a chemical called acetyl-choline to further contract cells and increase your desire to urinate. Detrol LA acts by blocking cholinergic contraction, reducing muscle spasms in the bladder which lessens urgency, frequency and lack of control of bladder function. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001, side effects for the drug may be common, less common or mild.
