Dr. Nicholas Perricone is a dermatologist who has written several books on diet, weight loss and wellness. Dr. Perricone has developed four diets: the 28-Day Diet, the 3-Day Diet, the Metabolic Diet and the 3-Day Clear Skin Diet. The 28-Day Diet was designed as a long-term diet for overall wellness. The 3-Day Diet is designed for people needing to drop a few pounds and improve their skin for a special event. The Metabolic Diet is a lifelong eating plan for people with sluggish metabolisms. The 3-Day Clear Skin Diet is for people needing to get problem skin under control. Consult your physician prior to embarking upon any of the Dr. Perricone diets.
28-Day Diet
Dr. Perricone's 28-Day Diet includes a menu for each day. Dieters are encouraged to adhere to the menu, cycling through the entire menu every 28 days. Exercise is emphasized in addition to good nutrition. On alternating days dieters are supposed to partake in aerobic and weight training three days per week. Once per week the dieter is supposed to take a break from exercise and spend her exercise time relaxing and meditating. The diet is based on moderate portions of whole grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables and plenty of water.
3-Day Diet
The 3-Day Diet consists of three daily meals and two daily snacks. Foods rich in folic acid and fatty acids are emphasized on the diet. Grilled salmon, walnuts, almonds and oatmeal are staples of the diet. Eating fruits rich in antioxidants, such as cantaloupe, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries are strongly encouraged. The diet also focuses on reducing sodium intake, which helps the dieter to shed excess water weight.
Metabolic Diet
Dieters on the Metabolic Diet eat three meals and one snack each day. Egg whites, grilled salmon, berries, lentils and broccoli are staples of the diet. Dr. Perricone's Metabolic Formula dietary supplement is required on this diet. Dieters are supposed to take three of the supplement packets each day. The daily snack, which is optional and is to be used when hungry or low on energy, consists of a 3 to 4 oz. serving of a meal replacement drink.
3-Day Clear Skin Diet
Three daily meals and two daily snacks comprise the 3-Day Clear Skin Diet. Dieters start their day with an 8 oz. glass of spring water and continue to drink spring water and green or black tea throughout the day. Yogurt, pumpkin seeds, salmon, turkey breast, oatmeal, cantaloupe, romaine lettuce and apples are diet staples.
