How to Make Peanut Butter Pies

Peanut butter and chocolate are a common pairing used in a number of candies and desserts. A peanut butter pie incorporates both flavors, along with cream cheese, for a rich dessert that doesn't require baking. A homemade chocolate cookie crust works best, but you can also buy a pre-made crumb crust made with chocolate cookies or chocolate graham crackers. Allow for chilling time to allow the peanut butter and chocolate layers to set before serving.

Step 1

Crush enough chocolate wafer cookies to make 1 1/2 cups of chocolate crumbs. Mix the crumbs with about 5 tbsp. of butter to moisten all of the crumbs. Press them into a 9-inch pie pan and bake at 375 degrees F for about eight minutes to set the crust. Allow it to cool before filling it.

Step 2

Mix together 1 cup of creamy peanut butter, a softened 8 oz.-block of cream cheese and 1/2 to 2/3 of a cup of sugar. Adjust the sugar measurement to achieve your preferred sweetness. Stir in 2 1/2 cups of whipped cream.

Step 3

Spread the peanut butter layer into the prepared chocolate pie crust. Leave about 1/4 to 1/2 inch at the top for the topping.

Step 4

Heat the hot fudge topping just enough for it to spread easily. Spoon enough hot fudge over the peanut butter layer to cover it in a thin layer. Refrigerate the pie for at least an hour.

Step 5

Spread a layer of whipped topping over the pie right before serving. Drizzle additional hot fudge sauce over the whipped topping as a decoration.

Tips and Warnings

  • Add finely-chopped peanuts to the peanut butter filling if you want a crunch. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top of the pie if desired.
