Juice fasting with fruits -- consuming only fruit and vegetable juices for a few days -- is a great way to stay healthy and slim. Juice fasting also helps to detoxify and cleanse the body of impurities and toxins. Using organic fruits and vegetables high in anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals will provide the necessary biochemicals and essential enzymes while you're on a short-term fasting diet. Juice fasting can also be used as part of a weight-loss diet. Always consult a medical doctor before starting any alternative or herbal therapies or diets.

Step 1

Make high-energy juices or smoothies with fresh fruits during a juice fast. Buy organic fruits from a farmers' market. Wash and dice fruits into pieces and juice them in your blender. Drink immediately or chill in the fridge for a few hours and serve with sprigs of fresh herbs or slices of lemon. Use fruits for energy and health boosters and to aid in weight-loss diets. Select pomegranate, acai berries, blueberries and bananas. These fruits contain phytonutrients that act as antioxidants in the cells to prevent cellular damage.

Step 2

Drink wheat-grass juices. MayoClinic.com lists many benefits of wheat-grass because it contains high levels of multivitamins and minerals such as magnesium, iron, amino acids and chlorophyll. The rich nutrient content in the plant strengthens the immune system and boosts energy. Buy wheat grass at a farmers' market or health-food store as powder, supplements or liquid. Add the wheat grass to fruit smoothies or chop up natural wheat grass and add it to fruit juice in a blender.

Step 3

Add protein to the juice to provide a balanced meal during a juice fast. Mix protein powder or protein supplements into the blended juice or smoothies. Alternatively, add soy milk or chopped fresh tofu to the juice mix. According to the National Soybean Research Laboratory, soya beans have no cholesterol and a low fat content.

Tips and Warnings

  • Keep freshly made juices in the fridge to chill before serving. Add sprigs of herbs, such as cilantro, parsley or basil to vegetable juices for added flavor and aroma.
  • Always consult your medical doctor before trying a new diet to be sure you do not have a condition that would make food restriction or fasting dangerous to your health.
