The word aerobic means with oxygen. Aerobic exercises increase the oxygen intake into the body and improve the oxygen system. Aerobic exercises tend to be endurance focused with long periods of moderate intensity. A lot of aerobic exercise classes hosted by gyms are focused on female weight loss. However, there are aerobic exercises which can appeal to men and their more competitive nature.

Soccer

Join a soccer team to get an aerobic workout. Although the need to have explosive power in sprints, the ability to turn sharply, and the strength to hold off opponents are all anaerobic traits rather than aerobic, playing 90 minutes of soccer is an endurance sport. It will provide you with an effective cardiovascular workout which will also help you burn considerable calories.

Basketball

Playing an entire game of basketball will give you the aerobic workout you need. The Mayo Clinic notes that people weighing 160, 200 and 240 lbs. can lose 584, 728 and 872 calories respectively from a one-hour basketball session. The exact calorie burn will depend on the intensity of the game. Basketball, like soccer, is sociable and competitive.

Golf

An afternoon on the golf course can provide an excellent aerobic workout. It takes roughly four hours for an amateur golfer to complete 18 holes. The calorie burn per hour for 160, 200 and 240-lb. individuals is roughly 329, 410 and 491 calories. Factors such as whether the course involves walking largely uphill or downhill will increase or decrease aerobic work rate.

Boxing

Boxing is a great aerobic workout which appeals to men. There is boxing for sport and boxing for fitness, according to Bodybuilding.com. Warm up for five minutes with a jump rope before performing five rounds of three minutes each punching the bag. Take a one minute rest between each round. Warm down with a five minute jump rope session. Boxing for sport involves focusing on your fighting technique and boxing against an opponent, rather than just punching a bag.

Racquetball

Racquetball is an intense aerobic workout which is popular among men. A casual one hour session on the racquetball court will see 511, 637 and 763 calories burned for body weights of 160, 200 and 240 lb. respectively. You will find racquetball courts at most fitness centers. As an indoor sport, it is ideal to keep up with your aerobic training sessions during the cold winter months.
