Though ice cream is served as a frozen treat, some toppings are meant to be served warm --- hot fudge and caramel, for example. An do-it-yourself ice cream bar makes for an easy and popular means of serving dessert at a family get-together or at a child's birthday party. A ice cream bar seems even more decadent when you can serve ice cream toppings warm, if you want to use toppings meant to be eaten that way. With minimal effort, you can keep your toppings warm.
Step 1
Wait until the last minute to place your warm toppings out. Microwave them in a microwave-safe bowl until warm. Stir, then microwave for an extra 30 seconds to keep them warmer as you serve them.
Step 2
Use heated dishes; the number depends on how many toppings you need to keep warm. Heated dishes are normally porcelain and come with a small candle underneath to heat the dish. Place your already-warm topping in the dish and light the candle. Your toppings will stay warm until the candle melts completely or you blow it out.
Step 3
Use a heated tray. Heated trays are plugged into the wall and can hold multiple dishes or bowls. Heated trays often have multiple heat settings. Keep the tray on a medium heat setting to keep the topping warm. Stir toppings periodically to ensure they do not burn.
