CrossFit was developed by Greg Glassman as a strength and conditioning program that incorporates a variety of functional exercises executed at high-intensities but can be scaled to fit any fitness or strength level. With the ability to match any fitness level, CrossFit has expanded into having thousands of affiliate gyms spread around the world. Every CrossFit affiliate must have certified trainers on staff teaching the classes. Each trainer, male or female, can choose from the various CrossFit certifications starting with the basic Level 1 Trainer certification followed with a Level 2 Coach's certification or specialty certifications such as CrossFit Kids.

Level 1 Trainer

The Level 1 Trainer certification is the first step to becoming a CrossFit trainer. Females can attend the two-day course held at various locations around the world. You can sign up through the CrossFit website (crossfit.com) and the classes don't require specific fitness or CrossFit background. During the course, you learn the basic fundamentals of CrossFit workouts and movements that allow you to effectively teach CrossFit workouts. The course finishes with a 50 question multiple-choice test.

Level 2 Coach

Becoming a Level 2 Coach requires successful completion of the Level 1 Trainer certification followed with successful completion of the Level 2 test. The Level 2 certification expands on the concepts and movements covered during the Level 1 course and are intended for trainers who want to coach and train future Level 1 courses. During the Level 2 certification, you actively participate in exercises and movements during the lectures requiring a basic concept of fundamental lifts.

CrossFit Kids

The CrossFit Kids certification is an ideal course for females because the course focuses on basic health and fitness concepts for youth. Before earning the CrossFit Kids certification, you must complete a criminal background check and have a Level 1 trainer certificate. During the CrossFit Kids course, you learn the primary CrossFit movements and how to scale those movements for kids of any age or ability level. You can use the CrossFit Kids certification for coaching in a CrossFit affiliate or teaching a physical education class.

Specialty Courses

CrossFit specialty courses allow you to expand your knowledge base according to the clients in your gym. The specialty courses range from rowing, running, endurance, gymnastics, mobility, Olympic lifting and powerlifting. Each specialty course is taught by certified CrossFit trainers and provides an opportunity to network and meet with other CrossFit affiliate owners, trainers and athletes. The courses range from a one-day or two-day course depending on the depth of material.
