Long Island iced tea is an alcoholic mixed drink. It first surfaced in the 1970s, and was named after Long Island, New York. Contrary to its name, Long Island iced tea does not contain tea. However, it does contain five top spirits. An easy drink to find when you are out on the town, it's also fairly easy to mix this drink at home.

Step 1

Fill a glass with ice.

Step 2

Pour 1/2 oz. each of rum, gin, white tequila, vodka and triple sec into the ice-filled glass. Add a splash of sour mix.

Step 3

Pour all of the contents of the glass into a strainer. Shake it one time briskly and then strain the ingredients into another ice-filled glass.

Step 4

Top the drink with a splash of cola. This gives the drink its dark color and adds flavor.

Step 5

Stir the drink gently. This will help to mix the cola into the drink.
