Snowboarding officially became a sport in the Olympics in 1998. Since that time, more people have tried recreational snowboarding. Most snowboards are constructed of a hardwood core in the middle between fiberglass. In freeride, all-mountain, carving, alpine or race snowboards, the nose or front is wider and the tail is more narrow. These snowboards are primarily ridden in only one direction. Freestyle, however, has a twin nose and tail that allows you to ride in either direction. To determine the difference between the front of the snowboard --- the nose --- and the back of the snowboard --- the tail --- familiarize yourself with your snowboard.
Step 1
Learn the names of the different parts of the snowboard. You can do this by searching online or having a snowboard dealer give you a session on the anatomy of the snowboard.
Step 2
Find out what kind of snowboard you own or are using. If you are renting the snowboard, ask the shop when you pick it up. If you have bought a snowboard and are unsure, ask the store where you purchased your board.
Step 3
Take a lesson if you need additional help getting started and learning the basics of the snowboard.
