The K2 company began specializing in fiberglass snow skis in the early 1960s. As K2 continued to grow, the company diversified its focus to include the extreme sport of downhill snowboarding. K2 offers a plethora of snowboarding equipment, including boards, boots, bindings, clothing and helmets. The youth model snowboards from K2 allow novice riders to perfect the basic skills and maneuvers.
Snowboard Styles
As of 2011, the adrenaline-pumping sport of snowboarding consists of numerous styles and sub-genres. K2 manufactures numerous models of the snowboard to allow you to customize your setup. K2's all-terrain boards can adapt to the varying gradient of the snowboarding slope. According to the 2011 "Snowboard" magazine Buyer's Guide, K2's all-mountain snowboards feature a flexible design that offers increased pop during aerial maneuvers. K2's freestyle boards feature a compact design and twin tip construction that enables you to land in a backward stance.
Special Features
The K2 snowboard is equipped with special features for increased performance. The 2011 line of snowboards from K2 feature a signature Hybrilight construction. K2's Hybrilight design combines lightweight metals and alloys to create some of the lightest snowboards on the market. The edges of the K2 are reinforced with carbon fiber for advanced grip during hairpin turns. The durable wooden core of the K2 snowboard is covered with layers of lightweight fiberglass. For riders with a large stature, K2 offers snowboards with a widened waist.
Size
When choosing a K2 snowboard, take your height and boot size into account. A snowboard that is too long will decrease your maneuverability on the slope. If your heels hang off the edge of the board, upgrade the width of the K2 snowboard. According to K2 Sports, the snowboards from K2 have a length that ranges from 149 to 166 cm. The shorter models of the K2 snowboard remain ideal for freestyle tricks, while elongated boards offer increased stability during off-piste runs.
K2 Gear
In addition to offering snowboards, K2 specializes in numerous types of snowboarding gear. The boots from K2 are equipped with a specialized lacing system known as the Boa. Simply rotate the adjustment knob of your K2 boots clockwise to increase the tightness of the laces. The moldable foam pads housed within the K2 boot will conform to the unique shape of your foot. K2 offers lightweight helmets to keep you safe on the slopes. The K2 helmet features an audio system integrated into the safety straps.
