The types of fat and the amount of fat you eat can lead to weight gain and make your butt bigger. Saturated fat is found in a variety of foods and should be eaten in moderation. If you are living a sedentary lifestyle and choose to eat saturated fats, you will gain weight all over your body, including your butt.
Saturated Fat
Fat is essential because it helps your body function. However, not all fats are healthy. Saturated fat is found in many animal products like meats, cheese, milk, butter and yogurt. The Mayo Clinic explains that saturated fats should be limited in your diet. This type of fat can lead to high cholesterol and even type 2 diabetes. The American Heart Association recommends keeping your saturated fat consumption to less than 7 percent of your daily calories.
Weight Gain
"The Obesity Research Journal" published a study in January 2006, completed by the Children's Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School found a positive correlation between calories coming from saturated fat and weight gain. The study followed more than 40,000 women for eight years to assess their dietary fat intake and weight gain. There was no weight gain associated with fats like polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, instead saturated and trans fats were the culprits.
Cut the Fat
Choosing to eat low fat dairy products will help you stay trim and keep your butt from expanding. Low fat products means there is less fat in them. The lack of fat, however, does not take away from any of the major nutrients found in dairy products like protein, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B 12. Red meats are also high in saturated fat -- so choose lean meat, like turkey and chicken to avoid unwanted fat.
Considerations
Consider adding regular exercise to your daily routine to keep your butt from getting bigger. Cardio exercise will help you burn calories and melt fat. Choose activities like running, hiking or kickboxing that focus on the lower body and can help shape your buns. Strength training will also help you keep a tight tush because it increases your lean muscle. Weight-bearing exercises like squats and lunges will help firm your butt.
