Are Wall Push-Ups a Good Exercise for the Bust for Women?

Contrary to the antiquated fitness myth, you can't "work" your bust with any exercise, because breasts don't contain any muscle tissue. However, wall pushups are an excellent chest, arm and shoulder exercise -- and working your chest is as close as you'll ever get to working your bust.

Busty Benefits

If you feel like wall pushups are having an effect on your bust, it's most likely because they are helping you develop better posture. Wall pushups develop the auxiliary muscles that support your shoulder blades, which in turn encourages you to sit and stand with your shoulders positioned back and down, instead of slumped forward. This healthy posture may make your bust naturally look larger or perkier. Doing wall pushups also challenges your core muscles to hold your body straight like a board throughout the movement. Stronger core muscles can encourage better posture and, thus, the appearance of a perkier bust.

Other Benefits

Wall pushups are especially good for developing posture, core strength and muscular balance because they force you to move your own body weight around, working and stabilizing multiple muscle groups at once. Even if wall pushups don't give you a bigger bust, they'll boost your confidence and ability to perform everyday activities like pushing groceries across the counter or hefting your child overhead. Strength-training exercises like wall pushups also build strong muscles, tendons and bones -- all of which are, ultimately, more important than what your breasts look like.

Technique and Progression

To get the posture, strength and confidence-boosting benefits of wall pushups place both hands on the wall, slightly wider apart than your shoulders. Walk your feet back 2 to 3 feet from the wall, keeping your body straight and shifting your hands down so they're slightly lower than chest-level. Squeeze your abs to keep your body straight like a board as you bend your arms, lowering your chest toward the wall. Straighten your arms, pushing yourself away again. As you get stronger, move your hands lower for an extra challenge. Soon you'll be able to do pushups with your hands on a bench, then eventually full pushups on the floor.

Good News

Although you can't "work your bust" by doing pushups or any other exercise, the good news is that you don't have to worry about developing muscular breasts, either. Just keep doing wall pushups, working your way up to more difficult variations as you get stronger, and you'll build a sleek, muscular torso that can compliment your bust, no matter what it looks like. You can explore other bust-enhancing moves, from a new bra to padding or even cosmetic surgery, if you absolutely must. But none of these enhancements will bring you the genuine happiness of learning to love and accept yourself as you are.
