Supplies for a Diaper Changing Table

Imagine struggling to undress your baby and reaching for a fresh diaper, then realizing there are none. Avoid a wild goose chase for that elusive diaper and keep your diaper changing station well-stocked with supplies. That way, everything you need is within reach and easily accessible at all times.

Diapers

Obviously, one of the most essential supplies for a diaper changing table are the diapers themselves. Whether you have decided to use cloth or disposable, make sure the changing table is kept well stocked with at least a day's worth of diapers at all times. For those using cloth diapers, keep the accessories nearby, such as the diaper covers and any fasteners.

Cleaning Aids

Many parents have different preferences on what to use to wipe and clean their baby during the diaper changing process. If you decide to use regular washcloths, make sure there not only is several washcloths on hand, but also a bottle or basin of warm water that is easily accessible as well. If you decide to use cotton balls, make sure the oil you will be using is also on hand but out of the reach of the baby to avoid accidental ingestion. Finally, if you decide to use diaper wipes, make sure the package is already opened so the wipes themselves are easily accessible. If you choose to use a wipe warmer, make sure that is easy to reach as well.

Creams, Powders and Ointments

Diaper creams, baby powder, petroleum jelly and other ointments should be kept at the diaper changing table, but away from the baby's grasp. Try keeping them in a Vecro-top case that you can open with one hand, but that the baby cannot manipulate open. Some of these products, particularly baby powder, can be dangerous if swallowed or ingested.

Clothes

At some point, all babies leak through their diapers and dirty their clothes. Be prepared for this inevitable situation by making sure the diaper changing table is stocked with extra clothes. Keep the outfits seasonally appropriate.

Toys

Although it may seem odd at first glance, toys are an essential part of any diaper changing station. As babies get older, they may not be as cooperative during diaper changes as they used to be. To avoid getting into a wrestling match with your baby, distract them with interesting toys.

Diaper Pail or Wastebasket

A diaper pail or wastebasket is definitely important to consider when getting supplies for a diaper changing table. When you are done changing the diaper, it's convenient to drop the dirty diaper into the pail or toss used wipes into a wastebasket.
