P90X Workout Basics

The DVDs provide 12 different workouts. By providing a variety of exercises, the program aims to keep participants engaged and avoid boredom. These workouts include resistance training, body-weight training, cardio, plyometrics, ab work, martial arts, stretching and yoga.

Strength Workouts

The first workout is a chest and back DVD that aims to strengthen and define your upper body. Another workout works your shoulders and arms with presses, curls and fly movements. The yoga workout improves your strength, balance, flexibility and breath work. There is also a workout DVD featuring only stretching. A lower body workout works your legs and back with squats, lunges and pulls. The chest, shoulders and triceps DVD targets your large and small upper-body muscles. The back and biceps DVD tones your arm muscles and strengthens your back. The Ab Ripper X helps you tone your stomach.

Cardio Workouts

The first cardiovascular workout is a ploymetrics workout that uses jumping to raise your heart rate, burn calories and improve athletic performance. The second cardiovascular workout is Kenpo X, which is an intense cardiovascular workout that involves punching and kicking, similar to kickboxing or martial arts. Core synergistics combines muscle strengthening with conditioning your body. The Cardio X DVD is a low-impact cardio workout.
