Yoga balls are often used to perform a variety of exercises that require increased core strength and balance. These balls are semipliable. However, the ball becomes less taut and significantly less supportive as air seeps out. You can reinflate the yoga ball by performing a few simple steps.
Equipment
You will need a ball pump, a bike pump or another form of air compressor. The ball pump is a cylindrical device with an accordion-like extension attached to a long tube. A small cone-shaped nozzle is at the end of the long tube. If you are using an air compressor or bike pump, you will need an adapter piece designed specifically for exercise balls. You also need a circular plug to insert into the opening of the exercise ball if it is missing or the previous one no longer traps air correctly.
Reinflation
To reinflate the ball, place the cone-shaped nozzle into the opening. Step on the accordion-like device to pump air into the exercise ball. You may also pump the bike pump or turn on the air compressor if you are using those devices. Continue stepping on the accordion device until the ball is spherical in shape. Measure the height, or diameter, of the ball to ensure it is adequately inflated. If the ball is at its correct height for its size, place the circular plug back into the ball to trap the air.
Dimensions
Not all yoga balls are the same size, so it is important to inflate it to the right size for proper use. You should be able to locate a size specification somewhere on the ball, though some varieties do not have a height label. In this situation, inflate it until it forms the spherical shape and then estimate its recommended height. Yoga balls are typically divided into 14-, 16-, 21-, 25- and 29-inch categories and should serve as a general guideline for inflation if the recommended height of a ball is unknown.
Considerations
Never overinflate the ball because this will greatly increase the risk of the ball bursting. This can lead to serious injury if used during more advanced exercise maneuvers. Temperature can also influence the size and pressure of the ball. During cold weather, the ball shrinks. It expands in warm weather. To ensure the ball is properly inflated, inflate it in a room with a temperature of at least 65 degrees but under 90.
