Facial hair that appears on a woman is either vellus or terminal. Vellus hairs are fine, light in color and generally hard to detect. Terminal hairs on the other hand are dark, coarse and a lot more noticeable. This type of hair can appear over time and it can be seen on the chin, jaw, upper lip and forehead. In order to remove it, there are several steps you can take.
Step 1
Use a depilatory cream. Wet your face and apply the cream in an area where there is hair. Leave it on for the amount of time recommended by the manufacturer. Wipe the hair off with a moistened washcloth. Go against the grain of hair growth when you do this. Apply it to all of the areas where you want to have hair removed. This hair removal can last for a few days to a few weeks.
Step 2
Pluck the hairs out with a pair of tweezers. Place your index finger and thumb on both sides of hairs that you want removed. Grasp the hair with the tweezers near the surface of the skin. Pull the hair straight out in a smooth motion. Repeat plucking out all of the hairs that you want removed. Do not pull the hairs in a yanking motion. This can cause them to break off inside the follicles.
Step 3
Get zapped with a laser. Laser hair treatments utilize a high-powered beam of light to target the melanin in the skin. This is the substance that gives hair its color. Once the melanin gets hit with the laser, the follicle is killed and the hair falls out.
Step 4
Get electrolysis done. In this procedure, a tiny needle is inserted into each hair follicle and a current of electricity is sent to the tip. The root gets killed and the hair falls out as a result.
Step 5
Use a home waxing kit. Apply the wax with the applicator and let it set. Place the cloth strip on top of it and smooth it out. Pull downward in a fast motion to remove the wax and hair. Continue to apply the wax in all locations where you want to remove hair.
Tips and Warnings
- Before you use depilatory cream on your face, run a test on your forearm. Wash your face with warm water before plucking hairs to soften the skin. Laser hair removal and electrolysis are expensive and they take several treatments to see lasting results. But the good thing about them is they can eventually be permanent. You can get wax treatments done at salons, spas and beauty parlors if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself.
- When using depilatory creams, make sure to keep them away from your eyes, mouth and broken skin.
