How to Prevent Wrinkles on Your Neck

The face is an area of the body that gets a lot of attention when it comes to wrinkle prevention. This is because it is the first thing that most people see when they talk to you. The neck can also develop wrinkles. Often, the neck shows signs of aging more than the face does. To prevent this, there are several preventive steps you can take.

Step 1

Exfoliate your neck with a soft-bristled body brush once a week. Do this while you are in the shower. Go in circular or downward motions, in the direction of your heart. Apply a moisturizer when you step out of the shower, while your pores are open.

Step 2

Apply suntan lotion to your neck to help protect it from the sun's UV rays which can cause wrinkles and damage. Use lotion even if you are not lying in the sun.

Step 3

Keep your head in an upright position. Working with your head down for long hours can cause your neck to become lax and wrinkles can develop. Make sure to keep your line of sight looking forward. Do this when you are reading, typing or walking around during the day.

Step 4

Drink at least eight cups of water a day to keep your body and skin well hydrated.

Step 5

Do not sleep with thick, high pillows which decease the angle from your chin to your chest. Use a thin, flat pillow instead to keep your neck in a more elongated position.

Step 6

Apply a daily moisturizing cream that has vitamin E and collagen, which help promote elasticity of the skin.

Step 7

Do a neck exercise to strengthen the muscles. Sit in a chair with your gaze fixed forward. Tip your head backwards until you are looking at the ceiling. Feel the stretch in your neck and hold for 20 to 30 seconds. Release and repeat five to six more times.

Step 8

Do an exercise with the assistance of your hand. Look forward and place your fingers on your forehead. Jut your chin forward and push against your fingers with your head. Feel the resistance in your neck. Hold for 20 to 30 seconds, release and repeat five to six times.
