How to Make Eyelashes Grow Naturally

Eyelashes are hairs with a relatively short growth process and lifespan, according to Dr. Loren Pickart, a biochemist and developer of antiaging skin products. Eyelash growth can be compromised by medical treatment, illness or simply overuse of harsh toiletries. Paying attention to your diet and the cosmetics you use can help make your eyelashes grow naturally.

Step 1

Eat a healthy diet that includes lots of water--shoot for eight 8 oz. glasses a day--protein, iron and omega-3 fatty acids. WHFoods, an informational service connected to the George Mateljan Foundation states that proper nutrition is essential for healthy hair. The Mayo Clinic explains that people who do not consume adequate amounts of these and other vitamins and minerals could experience hair loss. Eyelashes come from hair follicles, the same way the hair on your head does, and may fall out if you suffer from malnutrition.

Step 2

Keep your eyes clean and free of infection to allow your eyelashes to grow long and strong naturally. Infections of the eyelids such as blepharitis could cause you to lose eyelashes. Cleanse your face and eyelids with a gentle facial soap to ensure the health of your eyes and eyelash follicles.

Step 3

Use eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner sparingly if you experience problems with brittle eyelashes that fall out easily. Makeup can be an irritant to some women. Give your eyelash follicles a rest and allow them to grow by minimizing the amount of product you apply.
