Facial hair is easy to remove, but keeping it gone is difficult. Men naturally have fast-growing facial hair because of testosterone levels being higher, and most men shave the hair off, only to find the all-too-common five o'clock shadow return every evening. Women find as they age, their hormones become imbalanced, and facial hair growth increases on the chin and upper lip. Chemical bleaching kits can be costly and irritating to your skin. Professional hair removal is expensive, and not everyone can afford this option.
Step 1
Shave off the hair daily for men and every two weeks or more for women. Shaving is the simplest and oldest way to remove unwanted hair. Wet the area to be shaved with warm water to open the pores, and apply shaving cream or gel liberally. Do not use soap, as it will dry the skin. Hold your razor at a 90-degree angle and gently stroke the blades across your skin in the opposite direction as the hair growth. Pressing too hard will cause bleeding and irritation.
Step 2
Mix 1 tbsp. lemon juice with 1 tbsp. honey, and apply a thin layer to the face. Lemon juice has a natural bleaching quality without the harmful chemicals. Leave the mixture on your face for 15 to 20 minutes, and gently wipe off with a warm damp cloth. Do this daily.
Step 3
Apply a paste made of 1 tsp. of besan and 1 tsp. turmeric mixed with 1/2 tsp. water. Allow the mixture to dry and gently wipe off with a warm cloth. This will remove unwanted stray hairs.
Step 4
Make your own facial wax. Mix 1/2 cup lemon, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup honey in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for two to three minutes until the mixture boils and is smooth. Allow to cool slightly, but not all the way, as it will harden. Once it is cool enough that your skin will not burn, apply the mixture to the area with a small craft stick that has been washed with alcohol. Place a small strip of fabric on the mixture and rub it against the hair growth three times. In one fluid movement, tear the strip off quickly, going once again against hair growth.
Step 5
Wash the area with a mild soap, and rub with a pumice stone in a clockwise motion. Pumice stones come in small sizes that are perfect for upper lip and chin areas. This is a slower method, but you should see diminishing hair growth within a couple of weeks. Do not rub the pumice too hard or too long, as this will irritate the skin.
Tips and Warnings
- When using a facial wax on eyebrows, keep the wax out of your eyes, and always apply moisturizer after you wax to cut down on irritation.
