Quaker Oats produced its first breakfast cereal in 1877 and has continued to produce breakfast cereals and oatmeal throughout the years. In 2008 Quaker Oats released a new twist on the traditional oatmeal breakfast with Simple Harvest. The Simple Harvest oatmeal is a multigrain, natural hot cereal available in two flavors: vanilla, almond and honey, and apples with cinnamon. Both varieties include the same basic ingredients but have additional ingredients that supply texture and flavor.

Multigrain Blend

Both flavors of the Simple Harvest oatmeal start with the same basic multigrain blend as the main ingredient. The blend includes whole grain rolled oats, whole grain rolled barley and whole grain rolled rye.

Other Grains

Both Simple Harvest flavors include other grains in the ingredients list. Whole grain rolled wheat and oat flour are added in smaller amounts than the multigrain blend. Overall, the grains supply about 4 g of dietary fiber, including 1 g of soluble fiber per serving.

Salt and Sugar

Salt and sugar are essential ingredients in Quaker Simple Harvest oatmeal to produce a specific flavor and texture. Small amounts of salt and sugar are added to both flavors. One serving contains 75 to 90 mg of sodium along with 9 to 12 g of sugar.

Specialty Ingredients

The specialty ingredients for each flavor create the specific taste. For example, the apples with cinnamon flavor includes sweetened dried apples made from apples and apple juice concentrate along with whole flaxseed and cinnamon. The vanilla, almond and honey flavor includes almonds, whole flaxseed and natural vanilla flavor.
