Oxygen plays a very significant role in the body, affecting every metabolic process. Our main source of energy comes from nutrient compounds inside our cells being oxidized by enzymes. There are several ways to oxygenate the body, and certain foods can help with the process. Having a good oxygen balance in the body rejuvenates cells and prevents disease.
Oxygen
The way oxygen is used in the body is a complex process. When we inhale oxygen, it is diffused through membranes and into our red blood cells. This oxygen-rich blood circulates until it finds tissues needing oxygen. When enzymes in the body mix with the oxygen, they initiate metabolic, or oxidative, processes. One of the waste products of the oxidative process is carbon dioxide, which is released into the blood by the cells. It combines with hemoglobin and bicarbonates and goes back to the lungs, where the process begins again. One definition of health in the human body is how efficiently you can absorb and use nutrients and how effectively toxins and wastes can be carried away. Some toxins can only be burned up through the oxidative process, the job of the oxygen-carrying blood cells.
Increasing Oxygen Through Foods
The diet that is highest in oxygen is a raw foods diet. This diet would include a high concentration of fruits, green vegetables and sprouted seeds and nuts. Live fruits, green vegetables, and sprouted or soaked seeds and nuts are composed mainly of water, made up of the chemicals hydrogen and oxygen, and mostly oxygen, by weight. The green showing up in the vegetables is chlorophyll, which is very close to human blood in atomic structure. The oxygen we breathe comes from the chlorophyll in plants. It is this chlorophyll that makes life possible on earth.
Chlorophyll-Rich Foods
Green foods are easily digested and raise the body's alkaline level. They also help with flushing out toxins. Some good sources of green foods are spinach, broccoli, celery, kale, lettuce, leeks and scallions. The juices of wheatgrass, barley and alfalfa are all rich in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is not only cleansing to the blood, but adds important nutrients, promotes regularity and inhibits cellular damage from radiation.
Other Ways to Oxygenate
Drinking enough water on a daily basis is necessary for the body's effective use of oxygen, as well as to transport blood and other body fluids. Restructured or ionized water creates smaller groupings of water molecules and will provide more hydration and oxygenation of cells. Proper diaphragmatic breathing, about 12 breaths per minute, is a quiet way to increase oxygen levels, as opposed to chest breathing, which is shallow. Daily aerobic exercise helps your body use oxygen and remove wastes through the lymphatic system.
