College lacrosse drills are designed to improve your scoring, passing and defensive abilities during a lacrosse game. Because of the high level of competition in college lacrosse, the drills performed on a regular basis by lacrosse teams range from basic fundamentals to advanced shooting and defensive techniques.
Face Dodge Drill
This drill is designed to improve your face dodging ability during a game. Stand with a lacrosse stick in your hand and a defender a foot or two in front of you. While in a shooting position, fake a shot before quickly shifting your stick from your attack side to your weak side, tucking the stick behind your ear. From this position, sprint down the field and past the defender. Perform this drill five times before stopping.
Pivot Point Relay
Divide your team up into two lines at one end of the lacrosse field. Have each player at the front of each line hold their stick in an attack position. On your whistle, have them sprint forward in the attack position. Once they reach midfield, have each player rotate on their pivot foot 180 degrees and sprint back to the line. Once they reach the starting line, have the next player in line start. The first team to have all players finish wins the drill.
Assassins Drill
This drill is designed to help you double attackers by adding an additional defender to a drill. Have your players start a basic six-on-six scrimmage. Add an additional defender to the game, giving him the goal of doubling up whoever has the ball while on offense. Adding a defender forces the offense to move and protect the ball in an effort to not turn it over. This drill is designed to simulate the end of games when you need to protect the ball until time runs out.
One-on-One Attack
This drill is designed to improve both your one-on-one defensive skills and offensive attack skills. Have players break up into pairs, picking one player to be on offense and the other player to be on defense. On your coach's whistle, attack the weak side of the defender for five steps before shifting directions and attacking the strong side of the defender. Continue to rotate between the two until your coach blows his whistle.
