Words have the ability to affect your life. When someone speaks a kind word to you, your feelings of joy increase and those around you can see your happiness. Words also have the power to motivate. You can receive motivation for weight loss from spoken or written words. This motivation may be the result of words creating a different viewpoint regarding exercise or a reminder of the importance of exercise for your health. Posting positive sayings in a prominent place such as the outside of your refrigerator will give you daily reminders to maintain your healthy lifestyle.
Strength
"Nothing is impossible. The word itself says I'm possible." This quote from Audrey Hepburn is a reminder that you can do anything. You are never too old, too inactive or too overweight to begin taking care of your body. As long as you are alive, you can make changes. Even with physical limitations, exercise can be accomplished through swimming, arm cycles or muscle contractions without movement. Lying in bed, you can tighten your stomach, legs and arms to improve your strength.
Exercise
"A year from now you may wish you had started today." Karen Lamb reminds you to start today. This next year will continue whether you make the decision to lose weight or not, but at this time next year you can feel healthier by beginning an exercise program now. All you need are baby steps. Start with a small walk, even if it is just to your mailbox. Adjust your eating habits to leave small amounts of unfinished food on your plate to reduce your calorie intake. These small changes on a daily basis will add up over the course of a year.
Eating
"The rest of the world lives to eat, while I eat to live." With this quote, Socrates reminds you of the reason for eating. If you find yourself eating because you are bored, or sad or tired, remember that the reason for eating is to provide your body with energy. Food brings in calories which your body uses to keep you alive and for physical activity. When you eat an excess amount of calories, your body stores them as fat. Eat to sustain your body and to give you energy for your daily activities, not to fill up your time or to improve your mood.
Health
"Your body is the baggage you must carry through life. The more excess the baggage, the shorter the trip." Arnold H. Glasgow, described online as "an American author and humorist," paints a scary picture with this quote. The heavier your body is, the harder your heart and lungs have to work to move that weight throughout the day. Imagine carrying around a 25 lb. suitcase every day and the strain that this places on your body. Through healthy eating and exercise, you can lighten your load and improve your quality and quantity of life.
