The Maker's Diet is a book written by naturopathic doctor Jordan Rubin N.M.D., Ph.D., C.N.C. The Maker's Diet encourages you to pray twice a day as a way to ask for healing and also to give thanks. Rubin believes that the diet can heal a number of health conditions, including arthritis pain and Crohn's disease. It can also reduce your risk of developing heart problems and other medical conditions tied to unhealthy eating.
Principles
According to Dr. Rubin, the Maker's Diet is based on eating principles found in the Bible. Rubin believes the Bible offers a very clear insight on how to eat clean and healthy. Following those recommendations will result in weight loss, a cleaner and better-functioning body and a closer relationship with God. The diet is all about eating well, not about starving yourself or quick fixes.
Foods Allowed
All foods on the Maker's Diet must be unrefined and unprocessed. This means brown rice is fine but white rice is banned. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are all allowed as long as they meet the "unrefined" rule. The Maker's Diet also encourages the use of nuts, legumes, seeds and beans as a regular part of the eating plan. Organic food is highly recommended.
Stage One
The diet is divided into three stages. The first one is the most restrictive and limits everything that contains sugar, including natural sugars such as those present in fruits, starchy vegetables and grains. During this phase, you should drink only bottled or filtered water--never tap water--and should also avoid caffeine, alcohol and artificial sweeteners. You can also drink raw vegetable juices during this stage. The goal of this stage is to cleanse your body and to break your addiction to junk food.
Stages Two and Three
The next two stages of the diet also last two weeks each. Stage three can be extended past week six if necessary. During stage two, you can reintroduce meats and fats as well as fruits. Partially hydrogenated oils are again allowed in small quantities in stage two, but healthier oils, such as almond or peanut oil, are better. Other carbohydrates and starchy vegetables are not fully reintroduced until stage three.
