Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain, is known for its beaches, Saint George's Day national feast, historical architecture, bad traffic and -- since the May 2009 win of the Champion's League trophy -- soccer. The team's nickname is "Blaugrana," which describes the blue and maroon colors of the team uniform, and one player who wears these colors is Henrique Adriano Buss.

Biography

Henrique Adriano Buss, known among soccer fans as simply "Henrique," was born in Coritiba, Parana, Brazil, on October 14, 1986. He stands 6-feet, 1-inch tall, weighs 160 pounds and is known for his physical power, speed and efficiency. Henrique is right-footed, and he is a defender, playing at the position of center back.

Soccer Career

When Henrique was 12, he began playing for youth teams in Coritiba, Brazil. In 2006, he joined the Coritiba Foot Ball Club, and in 2008, he played with Bayer Leverkusen. In January 2008, former Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo saw him play and signed him for Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, where he stayed through December 2008. Henrique signed on to FC Barcelona on July 22, 2008, and was sent on loan to Bayer Leverkusen, a German team, where he stayed for the 2008 to 2009 season, playing well in 27 games. Since August 2009, Henrique has been on loan -- for 10 million Euros -- to the Real Racing Club de Santander, where, at the time of publication, he is scheduled to stay until his contract expires on June 30, 2011.

Recent Stats

During his first season with Racing Santander, he scored one goal and played a total of 22 matches, staying in the entire 90 minutes for 21 of them. By the end of the season, however, he injured his left knee. During the 2010 to 2011 season, while playing for La Liga with team Racing Santander, Henrique's statistics included 34 games started, two goals, one assist, 14 shots, four shots on goal, 37 fouls committed, 26 fouls suffered, seven yellow cards and one red card. During the same period, playing in the Copa del Rey league on the same team, his stats include two games, no goals, no assists, one yellow card and no red cards.

Honors

Henrique's honors include the Paulista Championship in 2008 as well as the European Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup, both during the 2009 to 2010 season.

Fun Facts

Henrique does not have an EU passport, and as a Brazilian, he counts toward the foreign player quota for FC Barcelona. While playing for Racing Santander, Henrique faced his own club, FC Barcelona, during a match in 2010.
