How to Measure a Full-Suspension Bike Frame

Full-suspension mountain bikes have a shock-absorbing suspension design on the front and rear wheels, making them easier to ride. The design of the suspension lets you ride over almost any terrain. The suspension absorbs the rocks, bumps and potholes that your body would normally feel when riding on a hardtail mountain bike. Measure your full-suspension bike frame to ensure you purchase the same frame size when replacing your bike.

Step 1

Stand your mountain bike on a solid surface. Have a partner hold the bike steady to keep it from accidentally tipping over as you take the measurement of the full-suspension frame.

Step 2

Look for the seat clamp beneath the mountain bike seat. The top of the seat tube is directly above the clamp

Step 3

Find the bottom bracket on the bike. This part of the bike frame holds the crank arms and the pedals. Determine the center of the bottom bracket.

Step 4

Measure the length of the full-suspension bike frame tube from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube. Note your measurement to the nearest half-inch.
