Though both are usually harmless skin growths, body moles and skin tags can cause discomfort and even embarrassment, depending on their size and location. Moles can occur on any part of the body and range in color from pink to bluish black, while skin tags most often occur on the neck, around the eyes, and near the underarms or upper chest and range from skin-colored to dark brown. While large, unevenly colored, asymmetrical moles should always be checked by a certified health professional, you may be able to minimize or even remove harmless moles and skin tags at home with herbal remedies. As with any alternative health treatment, consult your local physician first.
Bloodroot Paste
You may be able to remove moles and skin tags by applying a very small amount of bloodroot paste or salve directly to the mole or skin tag and then covering it with a plastic bandage. If you use salve, you should take care to apply it only to the mole or skin tag, as the salve contains zinc chloride that can harm healthy skin. Then, leave the paste or salve in place for one week to 10 days. Andreas Moritz, in "Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation," writes that when you remove the bandage, the mole or skin tag should easily slough off the skin. The skin may appear lighter in pigment than surrounding skin once the mole or skin tag falls off.
Lomatium Extract
You may find that adding several drops of the herbal extract lomatium along with drops of castor oil to a bandage and then applying the bandage directly to the mole or skin tag, will cause the mole or skin tag to fall off. Linda G. Rector-Page, in "Linda Page's Healthy Healing: a Guide to Self-Healing for Everyone," writes that celandine paste mixed with castor oil can be used as an alternative to lomatium extract. She recommends that you prevent potential burning from the herbal mixture by applying vitamin E oil to the skin surrounding the mole or skin tag. Leave the bandage in place for about a week, and then remove. The mole or skin tag may fall off cleanly.
Black Salve
You may be able to minimize or remove moles and skin tags by creating a black salve mixture of equal parts powdered pau d' arco, galangal root, red clover, sheep sorrel, bentonite powder, 200,000 international units of vitamin A, and 10 drops of essential oil of wintergreen, according to the book "Made Right for Your Skin Type." Add a cooking oil, such as olive oil, and cook the herbal mixture in the oven at 190 degrees for three hours. Once the mixture has finished cooking, drain off the herbs, and save the oil that remains. Apply the black salve thickly on the mole or skin tag every other day until the mole or skin tag falls off.
Thuja Tincture
You may find that applying anti-fungal Thuja tincture, or Thuja occidentalis, directly to the mole or skin tag and allowing the tincture to dry completely will contribute toward your moles and skin tags falling off. The tincture may also be combined with a few drops of castor oil. Reapply the tincture to the mole or skin tag every morning and evening for two to three weeks. Eventually, the mole or skin tag may fall off cleanly. You may also be able to support the healing process by taking low dosages of Thuja supplements several times daily until the mole and skin tag has been removed.
