The Nutrisystem program is a meal-replacement diet program that is designed to help clients who have had problems with portion control and decision-making about meals. The program works by reducing the client's choices to a number or pre-portioned, nutritionally acceptable meals. Nutrisystem Select is Nutrisystem's upscale program that offers 10 days of fresh-frozen products delivered right to your door as an addition to 18 days of the standard, shelf-stable meals and snacks.
Nutrisystem Select versus Nutrisystem Basic
Nutrisystem has traditionally offered 28 days of shelf-stable, prepackaged meals. These meals do not have to be frozen or refrigerated because they are "soft-canned," meaning that they are vacuum sealed inside tear-open pouches. Nutrisystem Select replaces 10 days of the shelf-stable items including a breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert with fresh-frozen selections for each day. The meals are still conveniently prepackaged and preportioned, but you must microwave or bake most of the frozen meal items.
Fresh-Frozen Meal Items
Nutrisystem adds selections to the Nutrisystem Select fresh-frozen program based on surveys and client feedback. The Nutrisystem Select program offers menu items such as frozen omelets and breakfast burritos for breakfast, chicken quesadillas and steak and cheese melts for lunch, roasted turkey and Asian-style beef for dinner and ice cream for dessert. Unlike the traditional program, you cannot choose which fresh-frozen items are delivered to your door; instead, you will receive the fresh-frozen selections that are offered that month.
Meal Delivery
Nutrisystem Select has partnered with Schwann's to deliver meals to you. If you are not home at the time of the delivery, the Schwann's representative will leave your frozen items in large cooler bags that are filled with frozen gel-packs. These bags keep the items cold for up to four hours. You have the option of changing your delivery time with the Schwann's representative if you prefer to be home for your delivery. To do this, call Nutrisystem's customer service at 1-800-585-5483 and select the options for Nutrisystem Select customer service.
Advantages of Nutrisytem Select
Nutrisystem Select has several distinct advantages over Nurtisystem basic and other meal replacement programs that do not offer fresh frozen meals. Donald Hensrud, M.D., of the Mayo Clinic advises seeking variety in your diet plan to prevent snacking or binge eating because of boredom with the diet. Nutrisystem Select offers a greater variety of food over Nutrisystem Basic, and because the food is frozen and not soft-canned, it is more similar to non-diet meals. In addition, Nutrisystem Select packages several of the meals with fresh-frozen vegetables, which helps the client eat a more balanced meal.
