5 Things You Need to Know About Cellulite Control

5 Things You Need to Know About Cellulite Control

1. It's Easy to Get, But Hard to Beat

Cellulite, or those nasty cottage-cheesy fat deposits on thighs, butt and knees appear magically on women around age 40, or even sooner if you're overweight or genetically predisposed to it. A sedentary lifestyle and thin, aging skin contribute to these unsightly fat deposits. There's no quick fix for cellulite. If you want a slim, toned body, you need to put in time and energy for good results.

2. Want Smoother Thighs? Work Harder!

There's no substitute for working your thighs and butt with a good exercise program if you want to control cellulite. Begin an anti-cellulite workout with stretching and weight training, followed by specific exercises for your cellulite-plagued area. Leg lifts, side raises and some yoga poses, like the knee and thigh stretch, strengthen legs and builds muscle, reducing cellulite. If you go to a health club, use machines like the Bowflex, a recumbent exercise bike (great for building muscle on the butt and upper thighs) or a jogging machine. Walk, swim or jog daily to keep legs firm and get rid of that "cottage cheese" look.

3. Eat Smart

Eat foods that build cells and eliminate fat to control cellulite. You guessed it--fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts and sunflower seeds provide your body with protein and help you develop a "thicker" skin by producing collagen.

4. Healthier Lifestyle = Less Cellulite

An all-around healthier lifestyle reduces your chance of contracting cellulite. Get off your duff and walk to the fax machine instead of using fax software. Walk to the store instead of driving. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol and reduce stress. Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins, and take a glucosamine supplement to improve skin texture. Get an occasional bodywrap to squeeze cell pockets together and shrink fat. The esthetician slathers your body with a seaweed, clay, mud or mineral mixture and then wraps you in a vinyl sauna suit or other covering to help you sweat off weight and cellulite.

5. Suck the Fat Out

Over the years, dermatologists, surgeons and various doctors devised methods with varying degrees of success. There's endermologie, a popular cellulite control methods used by doctors and plastic surgeons. A vacuum device massages and smooths cellulite, temporarily banishing or diminishing fat deposits, but the results are just that--temporary. Keeping cellulite away permanently requires hard work. Some women resort to liposuction on the cellulite-ridden areas, but even plastic surgeons warn that liposuction isn't the best anti-cellulite choice. It "sucks up" fat, but can't magically disperse cottage cheese cellulite in most cases.
