Playing a round of golf in the heat of the summer can make you sweat, inevitably leaving a broad sweat stain around the base of your golf cap. Sweat causes unsightly stains on your cap, turning a new cap into one that's ready for a yard sale after only one wearing. Protect your golf cap from sweat stains by treating it with a fabric protector. It helps keep your cap from absorbing dirt and sweat.

Protect Against Sweat Stains

Step 1

Unfold the sweatband from your golf cap so the sweatband is hanging out of the cap.

Step 2

Spray an aerosol fabric protector on the inside and outside of the golf cap. Avoid spraying the protector on the sweat band. Let the golf cap dry for about 15 minutes.

Step 3

Apply a second coat of fabric protector to the top and underside of your golf cap’s bill. Let the bill dry for 15 minutes before placing the golf cap on your head.

Clean Existing Sweat Stains

Step 1

Treat the existing sweat stains on your golf caps with a laundry stain pretreatment spray. Follow the directions on the spray to find the length of time to leave the spray on the caps before washing.

Step 2

Place your golf caps in the top rack of your dishwasher. Use plastic clothespins to secure your caps to the dishwasher rack. Do not wash golf caps with your dishes.

Step 3

Add dish-washing detergent to the dishwasher. Do not use laundry detergent. Select the regular wash cycle and air-dry feature on your dishwasher, and then start your dishwasher.

Step 4

Remove the clean golf caps from the dishwasher. Place the caps over upside-down soup bowls or over old coffee cans to hold the shape of the caps as they dry.

Step 5

Place a golf cap into a plastic cap form as an alternative and wash it in a washing machine with laundry detergent. Leave the cap in the form to dry. Do not place the cap in the clothes dryer.
