When a child suffers from autism, typical treatments involve occupational therapy, educational differentiation and nutritional supplementation. Many people try spirulina as a nutritional supplement, which the University of Arizona suggests has an extremely high B-12 content and can be beneficial. You can use spirulina as an ingredient when making treats that children with autism can eat as a healthy substitute for other snack foods or desserts.

Step 1

Grind 2 cups of raw almonds in a food processor on high until they are transformed into a coarse powder. Pour the almond powder into a bowl.

Step 2

Pour 1/2 cup of cocoa powder and 1/4 cup of spirulina powder into the bowl, and mix the two substances together for 30 seconds with a spoon.

Step 3

Pour in 1 cup of pure maple syrup, and stir the mixture for two minutes to ensure that the substances are completely combined. The mixture should be a thick paste.

Step 4

Pour 1 cup of raw shelled hemp seeds into a second bowl. Scoop a spoonful of the paste into your hand, form it into a ball, then roll it around in the hemp seeds to coat it completely.

Step 5

Place the seed-coated spirulina ball onto a sheet of waxed paper and flatten it into a disc with the back of the spoon. Repeat this process to make as many spirulina cookies as you prefer.

Step 6

Place the waxed paper sheet full of spirulina cookies into the freezer for 1 hour. The cookies will become firm and have the texture of fudge.
