Gelatina de guava, or guava gelatin, may be a unique treat to many Americans as it is not a commonly commercially available gelatin mix flavor. However, guava is a tropical fruit that is common in Latin America, the Caribbean and Hawaii, and guava gelatin is a traditional treat in Cuba and other tropical countries. So what can you do if you would like a taste of the islands at home? You can make your own guava gelatin from guava juice and unflavored gelatin packets.

Step 1

Pour the cool water into a small bowl and add the gelatin. Let the gelatin soak for 15 minutes, or until the gelatin has absorbed the water and softened.

Step 2

Heat the boiling water and sugar over high heat in the saucepan. Stir the mixture with a slotted spoon until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Step 3

Add the guava juice and reduce the heat to medium-low until the mixture is hot.

Step 4

Add the gelatin and stir until it has dissolved into the hot guava mixture.

Step 5

Pour the guava gelatin into a mold or a bowl and refrigerate until it has set.

  • 3 tbsp. cold water
