Certain factors go into the decision to lose weight. First, you make the resolve to lose the weight, and then you must determine how you plan to achieve your goals. Diet and exercise make up the basic principles for most weight-loss programs, but some people need extra help. For some people, the Alli diet pill may have some benefits toward these goals. Alli does not offer a quick solution, however, but these capsules may boost your efforts.

Rate of Loss

If you carefully follow the Alli plan, you may see a weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs. each week. The Alli manufacturer states that you should begin seeing this amount of weight loss in the first week that you use Alli. Keep in mind that each person responds to diet pills such as Alli differently, so you may see more or less weight loss each week.

Fat Intake

For the best chance to reach a 1- to 2-lb. weekly loss, you need to follow the dietary guidelines outlined by the Alli program. Instead of fatty cuts of meat, select lean cuts of meat, and reduce the amount of oil you use for cooking. You need to keep your fat intake limited to no more than 15 g of fat per meal. If you exceed this amount, Alli states that you may experience "treatment effects" which may include uncontrollable bowel movements and oily gas.

Best Results

In addition to reducing your fat intake, you should also eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, and eat whole grains such as brown rice, whole-wheat pasta and whole-grain bread. A diet full of variety and healthful choices will provide you with the nutrients you need each day.

The Alli plan also recommends that you exercise daily. Before you increase your activity level, consult your doctor. She can help you create an activity plan appropriate for your health. You may simply start out going for a walk and increase the amount of time or the distance you walk over a period of time. In time, you may choose to add other activities such as yoga or bicycling.

Considerations

If you do not lose weight right away, don't feel discouraged. Continue following a healthful diet that includes exercise, and you should start to see results. If you hit a plateau while on the plan you may need to switch your activity routine such as trying a different type of exercise.
