Many people like to add toppings to their ice cream to enhance the flavor and texture. Nuts like pecans create a nice texture difference , and toasted pecans add even more nutty flavor. You can toast pecans quickly in a couple of ways, but keep an eye on the nuts as they toast, because the oils contained inside can burn if left on the heat for too long.

In the Pan

Step 1

Place a frying pan or skillet on your stove and turn the heat to medium high.

Step 2

Add pecans to the dry pan in a single layer.

Step 3

Stir the pecans frequently and toast for five to 10 minutes -- until you can smell the aroma of the pecans.

In the Oven

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add pecans in a single layer.

Step 3

Slide the baking sheet in the oven for five to seven minutes, until you can smell the pecans.

Tips and Warnings

  • Chop the toasted pecans finely before adding them to your ice cream for a different texture.
