Syntrax Nectar is a high-protein food supplement that comes in powdered form. Nectar is one of a broad range of sports nutrition supplements manufactured by Syntrax, which makes products for improving performance in weightlifting and other sports. While many protein supplements, particularly whey-based supplements such as Nectar, are available on the market, Nectar may be more appropriate for your needs due to the distinct nutritional profile. Consult a doctor prior to using Nectar or any other supplements.

What is Syntrax Nectar?

Syntrax Nectar is a powdered protein supplement made from whey isolate. Whey isolate is derived from dairy products and is rich in protein, with minimal carbohydrates and fat. Research published in the September 2010 issue of the "Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition" found that consuming whey isolate after workouts can help you maintain strength during subsequent workouts. Syntrax Nectar is available in nine flavors: Apple Ecstasy, Caribbean Cooler, Crystal Sky, Fuzzy Navel, Lemon Tea, Pink Grapefruit, Roadside Lemonade, Strawberry Kiwi and Twisted Cherry. Syntrax Nectar is available online as well as at supplement stores.

Protein Content

Each serving of Syntrax Nectar, which comprises four scoops of the product, provides 24 g of protein. Your body uses protein to manufacture and repair cells and tissues, including muscle. Due to protein's muscle-building potential, supplements such as Syntrax Nectar may aid in bodybuilding performance. Nutrition researcher Dr. John M. Berardi explains that consuming up to 2 g of protein for each kilogram of body weight may improve your muscle-building efforts.

Fat Content

Syntrax Nectar is fat-free. While this can make Nectar beneficial for reduced-calorie diet -- fat is calorie-dense, providing nine calories per gram -- it can be detrimental if you are attempt to "bulk," or gain muscle mass, as this requires a calorie surplus. Additionally, research published in the February 2011 issue of "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" suggests that some fats, such as omega-3 fats, can aid in muscle growth by increasing the rate of muscle protein synthesis.

Carbohydrate Content

Syntrax Nectar contains no carbohydrates. The lack of carbohydrates may make Syntrax Nectar more appropriate than other supplements if you are following a low-carbohydrate diet, but the lack of carbohydrates can be detrimental for your muscle-building goals. Research from the June 2006 issue of the journal "Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise" suggests that consuming protein with carbohydrates may optimize post-workout recovery.

Artificial Sweeteners

Because Syntrax Nectar does not contain fat or carbohydrates, it has artificial sweeteners for flavor. Syntrax Nectar contains acesulfame-K and sucralose. MayoClinic.com explains that these sweeteners contain much fewer calories than sugar, but are not completely calorie-free. These sweeteners can be beneficial because they don't promote tooth decay like sugar, and are generally believed to be safe for consumption, according to MayoClinic.com.
