Walla Walla onions are a variety of sweet onion, like the more well-known Vidalia onion. They have golden skin and white flesh, and are available fresh from mid-June until the end of August. Walla Walla onions are most flavorful when eaten raw, and so are often served cold in salads or as a topping for hamburgers and other foods. However, Walla Walla onions can also be cooked several ways and eaten as a side dish, as their flavor is mild and somewhat sweet.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Peel the Walla Walla onion. Slice off the top and bottom with a sharp knife to make them level.
