The anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, is a broad ligament located in the knee. The functions of the ACL are to prevent knee hyperextension, stabilize the knee and control rotation. Common injuries to the ACL include a tear or a complete rupture. ACL tears can often be treated without surgery through a rehabilitation period that is usually three months or longer. Determination of the severity of your injury as well as an appropriate treatment plan should be determined by your physician.

Step 1

Receive clearance from your physician before playing with a torn ACL

Step 2

Attend physical therapy and rehabilitation to restore your knee strength prior to returning to playing baseball. Physical therapy will help to educate you on how to prevent re-injury as well as improve knee stability.

Step 3

Purchase and get fitted with a hinged knee brace to be worn when playing baseball. This type of brace is the most supportive and protective of an ACL injury.

Things You'll Need
