How to Kick Your Feet While Snorkeling

Snorkeling is an activity that allows you access to the underwater world of lakes and oceans. You can explore coral reefs, plants and vegetation, and a variety of fish and other creatures. Your equipment and the techniques you employ underwater are paramount to your overall safety. Proper breathing technique and kicking motion will help keep you safe and make your dives more enjoyable.

Step 1

Position your fins completely below the surface of the water before you begin to kick.

Step 2

Relax your knees and ankles to avoid muscle stiffness and cramping.

Step 3

Point your toes in the opposite direction of where you're going and kick your feet from the hip in short movements.

Step 4

Place your hands by your sides as you move through the water to help minimize the drag against your body. Envision the tips of your fins moving like a mermaid's tail to keep the motion fluid.
