How Do I Diet With Apple Cider Vinegar?

Many fad diets claim that by simply ingesting a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar every day, fat will magically melt off of your body. This, unfortunately, is not true. As a matter of fact, too much apple cider vinegar can actually harm your body due to its strong acidic content. Although there is no evidence that apple cider vinegar will attack fat cells, it is still beneficial to your diet. Apple cider vinegar contains many nutrients, including iron, copper, potassium and calcium, which are all important for a healthy diet. Apple cider vinegar also aids in digestion. Take apple cider vinegar in moderation, along with a reduced calorie intake and an exercise regimen, to lose weight.

Step 1

Purchase organic apple cider vinegar from a health food store. Non-organic vinegar is pasteurized using high heat, which in turn removes much of the nutrients that are key for a healthy diet. Organic apple cider vinegar may be vulnerable to bacterial contamination, but it contains all of the important nutrients needed.

Step 2

Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water or apple juice. Drink this mixture once a day to provide your body with essential nutrients and help regulate your digestion.

Step 3

Eat fewer calories than you burn during exercise. Depending on your age, weight and other factors, healthy calorie intakes will vary. Talk to your doctor about a diet plan that is right for you. Typically, a diet of fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grain are the keys to weight loss.

Step 4

Begin a daily aerobic exercise regimen to burn calories and help expedite weight loss. Warm up with speed-walking or a short bike ride, and get your heart rate going for at least 12 minutes before cooling down. Speak with a health-care professional before embarking on a new exercise program.

Tips and Warnings

  • According to "The Digestive Awareness Diet" by Dr. John K. Pollard, you may feel slightly dizzy or faint after taking diluted apple cider vinegar for the first time. This is completely normal and the feeling will fade quickly.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking apple cider vinegar or beginning a new diet or exercise regimen. Taking apple cider vinegar is not a proven method for weight loss. Do not take apple cider vinegar if you have an ulcer or if you are taking blood-thinning medication. Never drink apple cider vinegar undiluted. This can negatively affect the enamel on your teeth and your esophagus.
