How Can I Stop Neck Wrinkles?

As we age, we worry about our face, legs, arms and torso, yet forget our necks. Skin loses its elasticity as we age, and skin sagging and wrinkles can form on our necks. Before we know it, our necks are being compared to Thanksgiving poultry. Paying closer attention to this delicate area can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and keep the skin taut. While you can't stop the wrinkles forever, you can prevent them.

Step 1

Exercise your neck daily. Jut out your chin and move your lower jaw outward at least 10 times a day. This will keep your neck muscles toned and help prevent neck wrinkles and sagging skin. Another good neck exercise is to move your head as if you were looking above you and then slowly return to your normal position. Do this 10 to 20 times daily.

Step 2

Wash your neck and face in the morning and evening. Keeping your neck clean and free of bacteria and oils will keep the skin soft and supple. Use a mild cleanser and warm water. To tighten skin and reduce pore size after cleansing, splash cold water on the neck and face. This will also keep the skin taut.

Step 3

Apply an antiwrinkle cream moisturizer daily. Using a circular motion, work the moisturizer into your skin from under your chin down to your cleavage line. Morning is the best time to do this. Some products advise using twice daily, which is even better. When going outside, cover your neck and face with SPF 15 or higher sunscreen as UV rays will cause premature aging of the skin.

Step 4

Exfoliate your neck once or twice a week. Keeping your skin free of dead skin cells and deep down dirt will reduce swelling and keep skin smooth and plumped. Remember to apply moisturizer liberally after exfoliating to avoid dry skin patches.

Step 5

Drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Water keeps your skin hydrated and looking young. It reduces elasticity loss in all areas of the body for added benefit to the wrinkle wars.

Tips and Warnings

  • Injection treatments for wrinkles should only be used in extreme cases. Mild to moderate wrinkles can be cared for at home and should be the first choice.
