Redline is a nutritional supplement beverage intended to enhance your energy levels and promote fat-burning. Redline is produced by sports nutrition manufacturer VPX Sports and comes in six flavors, including grape, mandarin orange, peach mango, strawberry lemonade, triple berry and watermelon kiwi. Redline is low in calories, but it does provide caffeine and other ingredients that may help increase feelings of alertness and energy. Consult a doctor prior to using Redline or any other supplements.
Calorie Content
VPX Redline energy drink does not contain any calories, which makes it beneficial for weight management. Many other energy drinks are high in calories; one can of Red Bull provides 110 calories. If you drank a Redline instead of a Red Bull each day, you'd save 770 calories over the course of a week, enough to lose about one-fifth of a pound without altering any other parts of your diet.
Caffeine Content
Although Redline does not contain any calories, it may provide energy because it contains caffeine, a central nervous system stimulant. Each serving of Redline, defined as half a bottle, provides between 125 mg and 158 mg of caffeine, depending on the flavor. By comparison, generic instant coffee contains between 27 and 173 mg of caffeine per 8 oz. serving. Consuming an entire bottle of Redline provides between 250 mg and 316 mg of caffeine.
Amino Acids
Redline energy drink provides amino acids -- the building blocks of protein. Specifically, Redline provides leucine, valine and isoleucine, which are referred to as the branched-chain amino acids. According to a study published in the March 2011 issue of "The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness," consumption of the branched-chain amino acids may help improve your endurance and promote the use of fat for energy during exercise.
Mineral Content
Redline energy drinks provide a limited number of minerals. This product contains calcium, magnesium and potassium, but the amount per serving is 1 percent or less of the daily suggested intake of these minerals.
Other Stimulants
In addition to the caffeine in Redline, this energy drink also contains the stimulants evodiamine and yohimbine. While these ingredients can promote effects similar to caffeine in terms of increasing energy and alertness, they pose the risk of side effects. Evodiamine may cause a loss of appetite, which can lead to inadequate nutrient intake, particularly if you exercise often and have high calorie needs. Yohimbine may cause anxiety, dizziness and headaches.
