Many people struggle with weight loss, and some turn to diet aids for help. One diet pill called Alli may offer some benefits, but you should talk to your doctor before you begin the program. You will need to carefully monitor your fat intake since a high-fat meal with Alli could result in side effects such as oily gas. In addition to other food changes, some plans require you to limit your caffeine intake, but Alli does not make this recommendation.

Orlistat

Orlistat is the name of the active component in Alli. In some cases, a doctor may think a different dose of Orlistat is appropriate, and she may prescribe Orlistat in this circumstance. However, Alli contains the U.S. FDA-approved, over-the-counter dosage of 60 mg of Orlistat designed to help you reduce your caloric intake by limiting the amount of fat, and therefore the number of calories, your body absorbs. Alli does not contain caffeine or other stimulants found in some diet aids.

Caffeine

Caffeine is a natural component of various types of plants. Classified as a stimulant, you can find caffeine in many foods and drinks such as coffee, tea and chocolate. Some people consider caffeine unhealthy since consuming products with this stimulant can increase your heart rate and cause stomach upset, as well as cause sleeplessness.

Possible Benefits

In weight loss, caffeine could help alleviate hunger, but this does not result in a long-term effect. According to Katherine Zeratsky, a registered dietician with MayoClinic.com, caffeine consumption may cause a slight increase in calorie burning for a short time, but this small boost will not offer much in helping you reach your weight loss goals.

Weight Loss

Caffeine consumption may not have a significant effect on your weight loss, but you may experience benefits from the Alli plan. Alli states that the product can help you lose up to 50 percent more weight than you would if you did not use Alli, and this means that if you lose 10 pounds without the aid of Alli, you could lose 15 pounds with the product. Each person may experience a different weight loss but, in general, choosing a low-fat diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains while adding daily exercise to your routine will help you reach your goal weight.

Considerations

You do not have to monitor caffeine consumption when you use Alli, but you should avoid high amounts of this stimulant because you may experience side effects such as shakiness, increased heart rate, insomnia and nervousness.
