How to Cook Artichokes With Bread Crumbs

A dish with artichokes may be useful in promoting the health of your liver. Artichokes contain silymarin and cynarin, two chemicals that are beneficial to the liver. It is also considered to be a nutrient dense vegetable that is high in iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, chromium, magnesium and manganese. Artichokes are also high in fiber, folate and vitamin C. Traditionally, artichokes are often prepared with breadcrumbs and a mixture of Italian seasonings.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325 F degrees. Wash your artichokes and gently scrub them with your fingertips to remove debris. Remove the stem with a knife.

Step 2

Peal off the tougher outer leaves until you get to the softer ones in the middle. Slice off the top inch of the artichokes - the tips of artichoke leaves are spiky and can prick delicate fingers.

Step 3

Squeeze lemon juice over each artichoke, opening the leaves to coat them lightly.

Step 4

Mince your garlic finely with a knife, and put it into a mixing bowl. Add the breadcrumbs, parsley, and parmesan. Add a pinch of salt and pepper.

Step 5

Tuck the breadcrumb mixture between the leaves of your artichokes and then press them closed. Rub a tablespoon of oil over each of the artichokes, and place them into the baking pan. Put 1 cup of water into the bottom of the pan, and cover it with foil. Bake your artichokes for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
