The Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge

"The Biggest Loser" is a reality TV show that first aired in 2004 in the U.S. Since then, versions of the show have sprouted all around the world, including shows in England, Sweden, South Africa, India and Israel. To participate in the show, people must have at least 100 lbs. to lose and be willing to exercise and follow a controlled diet plan. Followers at home have a chance to "join" through a number of at-home challenges.

Video Game

"The Biggest Loser Challenge" is a video game created especially for the Nintendo WiiFit. To play, you first need to create an avatar, which will be "you" in the screen from then on. You can then choose from a variety of fitness programs and then you compete with former show contestants, who are all built into the game. The challenge behind the game's name is based on the fact that players have to complete some of the same workouts designed for the contestants. The more accurate you are when imitating your avatar's movements, the more points you accumulate. Players can choose to box, do yoga or try weight-training.

Pound-per-pound Challenge

The Biggest Loser Pound-per-Pound Challenge works on a pledge system. To participate in this weight-loss challenge, you need to register in the official website (see Resources). Then, you pledge how many pounds you believe you can lose. As you lose weight, you have to log back into the site and chart your progress. For every 1 lb. you lose, the creators of the Pound-per-Pound Challenge will donate 11 cents to the program Feeding America, which works with food banks across the United States. The Pound-per-Pound Challenge runs at the same time as "The Biggest Loser" season. When a season is over, the challenge stops. As soon as the next season starts, the pledging is open again. Pledging is free.

At-home Challenge

"The Biggest Loser" also has a challenge known as "Move It to Lose It Challenge." This is a free Facebook app that anybody can use. You can join on your own or you can get together with friends and then join as a group. Once you join, you can create a profile and enter some basic information, including your weight loss goals. The dashboard also allows you to share tips, recipes or tips with other members who are also participating in the challenge. You can also see how other people who aren't in your group are doing. You won't be able to see their names or other personal information, but you'll be able to access their stats to see who's the leader in your area or who's burned the most calories.

The Biggest Loser Club

"The Biggest Loser Club" is an online, interactive weight-loss program for those challenging themselves to lose weight at home. As of May 2011, the program costs $19.98 per month, although special offers and discounts are often available. Once you join and create a profile, you can access a personalized diet fitness plan. A forum is available that allows you to share tips and offer encouragement to other members. You can track your progress and get tips on eating out, changing your habits and exercising better.
