You won't find anything on the Applebee's menu called chopped steak, but you will find plenty of burgers that are made from ground cooked beef, otherwise known as chopped steak. Applebee's dubs its chopped steak sandwiches Realburgers and boasts they're made from 100 percent fresh ground beef and seasonings. They can also pack a lot of calories, so dieters should beware.

Sliders

Just because sliders are small, it doesn't mean they're low in calories. An appetizer serving of cheeseburger sliders at Applebee's contains 1,270 calories with 81 g of total fat. That includes 25 g of saturated fat and 3 g of trans fat. The sodium count is 2,270 mg, and there are 82 g of carbohydrates, 3 g of fiber and 51 g of protein. If you add the Applewood smoked bacon to the sliders, the calories jump to 1,330 and the total fat climbs to 87 g.

Realburgers

If you really want a burger but you're trying to watch your calories and fat, order a basic hamburger. Applebee's says a hamburger, without the fries, contains 790 calories and 46 g of fat. If you make it a cheeseburger, you'll add another 150 calories and 12 g of fat. A basic hamburger holds 1,180 mg of sodium, 50 g of carbs, 3 g of fiber and 46 g of protein. If calories are no problem for you, the Steakhouse Burger with A-1 Steak Sauce holds 1,250 calories and the quesadilla burger is close behind with 1,240 calories.

Children's Menu

Children can get smaller hamburgers and cheeseburgers from the kid's menu. A kid's mini hamburger has 390 calories and a mini cheeseburger has 430. Hamburgers have 27 g of total fat, 490 mg of sodium, 23 g of carbs and 15 g of protein. Adding cheese to the burger adds 3 g of total fat, 120 mg of sodium, 1 g of carbs and 2 g of protein. Both burgers contain less than a gram of fiber.

Sides

All of Applebee's burgers are served with fries, too. For an additional cost, you can substitute onion rings or add chili and cheese fries. A side of fries adds 390 calories. Crunchy onion rings are listed at 530 calories and a side of chili cheese fries contains 550 calories. The total fat content ranges from 18 to 33 g and the sodium ranges from 720 to 1,500 mg.

Alternatives

If you're trying to watch your intake of calories, carbs or fats, Applebee's offers some suggestions for customizing your order. Ask for reduced fat dressings, if available, and ask that dressings and sauces be served on the side. Instead of fries, mashed potatoes or onion rings, substitute a side salad, steamed vegetables or fresh fruit. Look for menu items marked "Unbelievably Great Tasting and Under 550 Calories" or offerings endorsed by Weight Watchers.
