Exercises for Body Sculpting

Body sculpting is a workout program that incorporates exercises that target the specific areas of the body you would like to reshape. The workout firms and elongates your muscles to produce a toned and lean appearance. You can sculpt your body in the privacy of your home without purchasing expensive equipment. Success depends on your commitment and consistency to workout. Always check with your doctor prior to starting any exercise program.

Arms

You can tone and reshape your arms with several easy exercises. Performing small and large arm circles in a clockwise and counter-clockwise direction with the palms of your hands alternating up and down firms the upper and lower arms. The bent-knee push-up works the arm, breast and shoulder muscles. You can firm and define the muscles in the back of the upper arm by performing reverse curls. For this exercise you stand in a straddle position with one leg forward and one leg backward. You rest one hand directly above your knee and the hand with a 5-lb. weight is bent to a 90-degree angle. Slowly extend your weighted arm backward.

Waist

The trunk twist is a basic exercise that helps to trim the waistline. To begin, stand with your legs shoulder-width apart and hands on your hips. Twist your upper body to the left as far as possible and return to the center. Turn your upper body to the right as far as possible. Slow and deliberate movements provide the best results. Another waist-trimming exercise is to stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and arms extended out from your sides. Bend and extend your arm up and over to touch your opposite foot. As you bend and twist to touch your opposite foot, you will feel your core muscles stretch.

Legs and Buttocks

Walking is a low-impact sport that tones the leg muscles and trims the waist. You can walk outdoors, on equipment in your home or at a gymnasium. Stair-climbing is another workout that firms and strengthens the thigh muscles and buttocks. Prior to beginning a walking or stair climbing program, purchase a pair of walking shoes that provide the necessary support and ventilation. You can tone and shape your calf and thigh muscles by performing standing heel raises and curls and side-lying leg raises and circles.
