The Blood Type diet is based on Peter D'Adamo's book "Eat Right 4 Your Type." The basis behind the program is that certain foods impact your health based on your blood type. D'Adamo claims that following the diet may result in weight loss but will also improve your health at the same time. If you have blood type B, you are able to eat a well-balanced diet that includes plant and meat foods.

Meat

If you have blood type B, you should eat meat once per day. Males on this program should aim for 4 to 6 oz. of lean red meat several times weekly, while women need 2 to 5 oz. a few times per week. Good choices include lamb, rabbit and venison, preferably organic. Both males and females should eat fish three to five times per week, and species that fit within a B blood type's meal plan include, cod, flounder, grouper, haddock, pike, salmon, trout, mahi mahi and caviar. A person with a B blood type should avoid pork, poultry, crustaceans, organ meats and buffalo.

Fruits and Vegetables

A B blood type allows you more variety, and including fruits and vegetables keeps your calorie intake low and offers plenty of nutrients that support your health. Aim for 3 to 5 cups of raw vegetables and 3 to 5 cups of cooked vegetables each day and 3 to 5 oz. of fruit three to four times per day. Eat plenty of greens, peppers, beets, eggplant, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. Fruits that should be included in the B blood type diet include bananas, cranberries, grapes, pineapple, papaya and plums. Fruit juices are also acceptable for a B blood type.

Dairy Foods

D'Adamo recommends 4 to 6 oz. of milk four to five times per week. In addition, you should eat 2 oz. of cheese three to five times per week. Choose cottage cheese, feta, goat, mozzarella and ricotta cheeses. A B blood type should eat 4 to 6 oz. of yogurt two to four times per week.

Grains

Your grain intake on the B blood type diet is more restricted than other food groups. You are allowed 1 cup of dry millet, spelt, oats or rice cereal two to four times per week. Eat a slice of bread or a muffin up to once a day. Choose those made with brown rice or millet. You are also allowed 1 cup of rice or oats three to four times per week and 1 cup of pasta three to four times per week.
