Vodka is a popular liquor because it mixes well with a variety of juices and sodas. Vodka also comes in many different brands and flavors, which adds more drink options. Common vodka drinks include screwdrivers, vodka sodas and vodka and lemonade. Vodka is usually 80 proof, meaning it is 40 percent alcohol. A shot of 80-proof vodka contains about 100 calories.

Step 1

Put a handful of ice into your glass and add one to two shots of vodka. Typically, a shot equals 1.5 oz. Measure with a shot glass or buy a pourer, which automatically pours one shot at a time, to put on the vodka bottle. You can use more or less vodka depending on your preferences.

Step 2

Fill the rest of the glass with soda for a simple drink. Use diet soda if you are watching your calories. You can also replace the soda with water or mineral water to limit calories. Vodka with mineral water is known as a vodka soda. If you are making a vodka water or vodka soda, add a slice of lemon or lime for more flavor.

Step 3

Add orange juice instead of soda to make a screwdriver. If you like carbonation you can also add white soda or sparkling water. Other popular juices to mix with vodka include cranberry and pineapple juices. Replace the juice or soda with lemonade for a slightly tart drink.

Step 4

Stir your drink with a spoon to mix it up. This prevents the alcohol from resting at the bottom of the drink.
