Fried string beans, like most vegetables, can end up a mushy mess if not done correctly. The goal is to get your fried string beans to the proper level of crispiness. The thickness and moisture level of the string beans you are frying determine the length of time they must remain in the frying oil. Fried string beans are not a substitute for one of your required, daily vegetable servings.

Step 1

Wash the string beans in water and pat dry.

Step 2

Pour vegetable or canola oil into a pot and place over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Pour the flour into a bowl and add seasonings if desired. Mix the milk and egg in a separate bowl until thoroughly combined.

Step 4

Place a handful of beans into the egg and milk mixture to coat and then transfer to the flour mixture. Shake lightly to remove the excess flour.

Step 5

Place the beans into the heated oil.

Step 6

Fry the beans until golden brown, then remove using a wire fry scoop.

Step 7

Put the cooked string beans onto paper towels to absorb excess grease.
