Working as an Reebok indoor cycling instructor is a great way to share your passion with others while making a few extra bucks, but getting your certification involves several steps and a substantial investment. There is a big difference between taking a class as a participant and leading it as the teacher: As a student, the experience is all about you and your workout; as the instructor, you have to focus on everyone else in the class.

Prepare for Your Certification Workshop.

Step 1

Attend Reebok indoor cycling classes regularly for at least one year. The best way to learn the Reebok format is to become very familiar with the classes. Attend at least three days a week, if possible, and let your instructor know you want to be a teacher.

Step 2

Get your Red Cross First Aid and CPR with AED certification. If your goal is to work as a group fitness instructor, you will need a CPR certification. Due to insurance requirements, most gyms will only hire instructors who can prove they have completed this class. The cost of the course will vary by location, but you can expect to spend at least $70 for the full adult First Aid and CPR with AED.

Step 3

Complete a group fitness instructor certification with a nationally accredited body like the American Council on Exercise, or ACE, or the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, or AFAA. A basic group fitness instructor certification will not only help you find a job -- most gyms prefer to hire accredited instructors -- but it will also teach you the basics about cueing, leading and motivating your class.

Get Your Reebok Certification.

Step 1

Register for a Reebok indoor cycling workshop. The organization through which you completed your group fitness instructor certification will provide a listing of third-party educational providers who offer a Reebok indoor cycling certification. If you choose a class through your certifying body, you will also be able to use this course toward your continuing education requirement to keep your group fitness instructor certification up-to-date. The cost of the course varies depending on the provider, but you can expect to spend about $150.

Step 2

Prepare for the workshop. If you receive study materials from the education provider before the workshop, be sure to study them thoroughly before you attend. The workshops last about six hours, part of which will involve hands-on work. The night before the workshop, be sure to get plenty of rest, pack a healthful lunch with lots of protein and complex carbohydrates, and take a few bottles of water.

Step 3

Attend the workshop. On workshop day, come dressed to work out. Bring your lunch, a towel, water bottles and a change of clothes. You will learn about the physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology and motivational methods of Cycle Reebok.

Step 4

Continue your education. After you have completed your certification workshop, you will need to continue taking courses to keep your group fitness instructor certification up to date. You can continue taking cycle Reebok classes, including cycle intervals, rhythm ride, sports conditioning, interactive riding and performance plus. The advanced workshops tend to last about three hours.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use the preparation phase of the certification process to build up your fitness level and endurance, which will make it easier to get through the workshops and training process. If you want to work as a cycle instructor, talk to your current fitness instructors and gym manager to let them know what your goals are. They may be able to help you find work once your certifications are complete.
